The news from Lunenburg will be positive for music lovers if the proposal to turn the Lunenburg Academy into a music school come to fruition. It isn’t a “done deal” but those are some big names behind it as revealed in this article from the Chronicle Herald;
As I read the article I was impressed by this quote.
“And in this case, particularly so, because the academy will be free to students. Wathen said they will attend on full scholarships.They don’t have to pay anything to come here.”
Contrast this with the QPEC refusal to let a non-profit group that benefits the community use the Community Room for free. In Lunenburg they have dreams. In Queens we have rejection.
Negative of me? You bet. But keep in mind that QPEC started it with the ultimate negative rejection.
Here is an issue for the new council – to make QPEC more than a hockey rink. To turn it into a true community facility that is used by the community and not the privileged few.
Before you vote in the October election ask the candidates what they would do. Then, if the answer supports the QPEC decision ask yourself what kind of message that will send to anyone wanting to move here. No, better yet, ask what kind of message it sends to people who might want to stay.
